Will AI replace conventional methods in forecasting typhoons in Hong Kong?

The Hong Kong Observatory was set up in 1883 to tell the public about weather conditions in the city. Despite advances in forecasting technology over the past nearly 150 years, the Observatory still faces occasional criticism. Residents pay extra attention to forecasts about tropical storms, as several typhoons have caused widespread damage across the city in recent years. Now the Observatory is not only relying on data from satellites, radar and other sources to come up with forecasts, but also using artificial intelligence. In one case, AI offered the most accurate prediction.
