Why do Hongkongers care so much about Cantonese?

Artists using written Cantonese to reinterpret traditional Chinese heritage and Hongkongers overseas sharing their linguistic heritage with an overseas diaspora are but two examples of Hong Kong’s attachment with the dialect most commonly spoken in the city.
