The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic could threaten food security for the world’s poorest communities. Lockdowns and economic downturns that will affect developing nations the most, will make it difficult for the poor to access or pay for food. The UN food agency says food supplies around the globe remain stable for now, and that those most in need of help are getting support. But WFP Acting Director of Supply Chain, John Crisci, says if more nations stockpile food supplies and ban exports of staples such as rice, wheat and grains, the “health crisis will become a food crisis.’
