Why did shares of Chinese chipmaker CXMT surge over 460 per cent in a day?

The company has a market capitalisation of 3.28 trillion yuan (US$484.7 billion) as of July 27, making it mainland China’s most valuable onshore listing.

Shares of Chinese memory chipmarker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) rose 466 per cent when they were listed in Shanghai on July 27. Launched in 2016 as a supplier of low-power memory for personal devices, CXMT has since scaled up to make advanced DDR5 products for computers and servers as China works to replace imported chips with domestic alternatives.
