More than 3,300 tonnes of food waste end up in landfills every day in Hong Kong, a city where more than one million people live in poverty and struggle to afford enough to eat. Gabrielle Kirstein has come up with a solution that helps counter both problems. Instead of letting good food go to waste, she rescues and donates such items to local charities. Kirstein founded Feeding Hong Kong about 14 years ago, and in 2024, the charity saved over 1,200 tonnes of food to serve up an estimated 3.7 million meals. In this episode of Listen to Her, the Post’s Regina de Luna sat down with Kirstein to discuss her mission to bridge the gap between poverty and the abundance of food in the city.
