Tourists flock to waterfront as PLA navy ships sail into Hong Kong

Two People’s Liberation Army (PLA) naval vessels have arrived in Hong Kong for a five-day port call. The guided-missile destroyer Nanning and the guided-missile frigate Hengyang sailed into the city through Lei Yue Mun and Victoria Harbour on July 2, 2026. China’s Ministry of Defence said the port call by the PLA vessels was to mark the 29th anniversary of the city’s July 1, 1997, return to Chinese sovereignty.
