Hong Kong housing minister reveals plan to regulate subdivided flats, boost home ownership

Hong Kong authorities will regulate subdivided flats in phases, with higher-risk homes in certain districts and buildings prioritised for eradication. In an exclusive on-site interview with the Post at a temporary housing estate, Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho revealed that she is working on regulatory details before submitting the plan to the city’s leader for review in August. She added that Hong Kong could boost the home ownership rate with reasonably-priced properties. Ho said the Housing Authority, which is the city’s biggest public housing developer, was committed to building about 7,000 affordable homes a year.
