Hong Kong dog shelter struggles amid jump in number of stranded pets and staff shortage during Covid

The Hong Kong-based non-profit Sai Kung Stray Friends has been struggling to continue its work rescuing abandoned, sick, injured and stray dogs during the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of animals the group has taken in has doubled amid a rise in the number of pet owners moving abroad. It is also suffering from a loss of donors and volunteers who have also been leaving the city, putting added pressure on already stretched manpower and the high cost of operating the shelter.
