Hong Kong’s Election Committee picks John Lee as city’s next chief executive in one-man race

Hong Kong’s Election Committee has unanimously voted for John Lee Ka-chiu to become the city’s next chief executive. Lee was the sole candidate to replace outgoing leader Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. China's central government had said Lee was the only candidate it would back in the race. Lee will be sworn in as chief executive on July 1, 2022.
