A top Hong Kong official has been sent into quarantine after attending a birthday party attended by over 100 guests, including a suspected Covid-19 patient. The city’s chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said she was “very disappointed” that 10 of her top officials attended the gathering, possibly exposing themselves to infection, just days after health officials had advised Hongkongers to avoid large gatherings. Attendees included the city’s Home Affairs Secretary Caspar Tsui Ying-wai, who has been sent to the government quarantine centre in Penny’s Bay. Nine other officials, including Police Commissioner Raymond Siu Chak-yee and Director of Immigration Au Ka-wang, also joined the party organised for a senior mainland Chinese official.
