Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has announced the resumption of the city’s quarantine-free “Return2HK” scheme. Hong Kong residents who have a negative Covid-19 test at least 72 hours before arrival will be able to return home from mainland China and Macau, without being quarantined, from September 8 onwards. Announcing the change on September 7, 2021, Lam said the programme for returning residents will not apply for arrivals from six medium- or high-risk areas. She said up to 2,000 non-residents travelling from neighbouring Guangdong province and Macau will be able to enter Hong Kong daily, starting from September 15, under a separate “Come2HK” policy. Hong Kong confirmed six imported cases on September 7, and has had no locally transmitted cases since August 17.
