Hong Kong’s new high-speed rail link to mainland China starts trials

Hong Kong’s high-speed rail link to mainland China began trial operations on April 1. The link is expected to open in September, despite controversy over its immigration checkpoint. Although located in Hong Kong, the terminal has two floors which are set to fall under the jurisdiction of mainland China. The arrangement must be approved by Hong Kong lawmakers before its planned opening in September. Opponents say it violates Hong Kong’s mini-constitution.
