Singapore is racing against time to extend the lifespan of its only landfill island, Pulau Semakau. The island, which doubles as a nature reserve, has also emerged as a tourist hotspot owing to its lush greenery and forests which have earned it the name ‘Garbage of Eden’. But the landfill site is expected to be filled within a decade amid a growing population and accusations of ineffective waste management.
