Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong officially surpassed the 1 million mark on March 18, 2022, as the city recorded 20,082 new infections. Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said a day earlier that her government was re-evaluating strict social distancing rules in place since January that includes flight bans to nine countries and suspension of face-to-face learning in schools. Lam said adjustments to those rules could be announced in a few days, but a government advisor has told the Post the city could ease its restrictions in 6-8 weeks if it met two key conditions.
