According to several migrant workers rights groups, at least 30 foreign domestic workers were forced to sleep on the streets or were denied treatment after testing positive for Covid-19 amid a surge in infections in Hong Kong. HELP for Domestic Workers, one of the local NGOs, has supported over 60 migrant domestic workers who have tested positive for Covid-19 with shelter or food, medicine and any other necessities.
Every weekend, Hong Kong’s Central district is normally crowded with domestic helpers who gather there on their day off. But under updated social distancing rules banning gatherings of more than two people, only a few of them could be seen around the city centre while inter-departmental government joint operations were conducted appealing to foreign domestic workers to obey the regulations.
Infected domestic helpers who need help from HELP for Domestic Worker could call their hotline: +852 5936 3780.
