China mobilises rescue teams to Nepal border crossing after landslide disaster

The fate of thousands living near the Gyirong Port border crossing in China’s Tibet autonomous region remains unknown after a mudslide and flash flood struck the area along its border with Nepal on Wednesday. The catastrophic ice-rock avalanche, which turned into a massive debris flow, registered a magnitude 5.2 seismic event, according to the US Geological Survey.
