Chinese actor becomes vegetable vendor after surge in AI-generated microdramas
According to a report released by the Communication University of China, 95 per cent of the estimated 128,000 microdrama series launched in the first quarter of 2026 were AI-generated.

Chinese actor Xu Peng has gone viral on social media after posting a series of videos that show him working in his new job as a vegetable vendor. The 30-year-old had become famous in recent years for playing roles in popular Chinese microdramas, but he says AI has forced him out of the industry.
