Tourist banned from Chinese Unesco site for shoving monkey

A tourist has been banned from visiting Emei Mountain in China’s Sichuan province for three years, after footage showed him pushing a macaque off a roadside railing on the afternoon of May 4, 2026. The Emei Mountain Scenic Area Administrative Committee said that the incident, which took place in the Leidongping scenic area, did not occur in a dangerous cliffside section – despite social media reports to the contrary.
