Chinese streaming giant iQIYI bets on AI to reverse fortunes

iQIYI hopes viewers will tune in to watch films that feature AI generated visuals, storylines and actors.

China’s Netflix-style iQIYI is banking on a pivot to artificial intelligence to reverse its losses as short-form social video and bite-sized micro-dramas grab viewers’ attention. The company unveiled its “Nadou Pro” AI platform, which aims to connect creators with actors who have expressed interest in AI content. But some Chinese internet users have expressed concerns that AI avatars could replace their favourite actors.
