China’s northeastern city of Harbin is famous for its annual Ice and Snow Festival. During the three-day New Year holiday that ended on January 1, 2024, the city attracted a whopping 3 million visitors, and generated a record-breaking 5.9 billion yuan (US$833 million) worth of tourism revenue. The “ice city” can hit as low as minus 35 degrees Celsius (-31°F).
