Chinese President Xi Jinping said that collaboration with the US on green development and climate change has “huge potential”. Xi made the remarks in his meeting with visiting California Governor Gavin Newsom on October 25, 2023. He said the economic interests of the two countries were “closely intertwined” and they should work towards a mutually beneficial direction. Newsom travelled to Beijing to promote climate partnership following stops in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Newsom welcomed Xi to his state for the November Apec forum, which is seen as the likeliest opportunity for a presidential summit between the two countries.
