Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Tibet autonomous region to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the region’s administrative and religious capital, Lhasa. Chinese state media on July 23, 2021, released video footage of religious figures and local residents greeting the Chinese leader. Xi arrived in the city of Nyingchi on July 21 and took a train to Lhasa the next day. He led a similar delegation to Lhasa in 2011 as China’s then vice-president.
