A Chinese home-grown tunnel-boring machine rolled off the production line in Changsha city in southern Hunan province on July 10, 2021. Chinese state media claims Jinxiu, the earth pressure balance tunnel-boring machine, is the country’s largest. Jinxiu weighs 2,722 tonnes and measures 135 metres (443 ft). The 7,500-kilowatt machine will soon be used in the construction of a railway from Chengdu to Zigong City in China’s Sichuan province.
