Chinese universities should train ‘builders and successors’ of socialism, says President Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the campus of his alma mater Tsinghua University on April 19, 2021, ahead of its 110th anniversary. Xi praised Tsinghua for its cultivating talent “both red and professional”, using a phrase coined during the Mao Zedong era. The Chinese leader, who studied chemistry at Tsinghua, also said the nation’s education system should produce a new generation of inquisitive thinkers loyal to the Communist Party.
