Frantic search after Chinese woman’s gemstones mistakenly thrown in the trash

Police in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai managed to help a woman retrieve her lost precious stones worth at least 1 million yuan (US$145,000). 

The woman accidentally dropped a bag containing the gems, described as diamonds or sapphires, onto the street on July 19, 2019. 

Police discovered that a cleaner had unwittingly picked up the gems and tossed them into a garbage truck.
