Philippine exorcism centre draws priests from across Asia as cases pile up
Manila facility trains priests and clergy as cases of alleged possession continue to rise.
Asia’s only dedicated exorcism centre, located in the Philippine capital Manila, is training priests and clergy from across the region. The Saint Michael Centre for Spiritual Liberation and Exorcism, which has been operating in the heavily Catholic country for five months as of this week, says cases of alleged possession are piling up. The facility carries out exorcisms under Vatican rules updated in 2024, requiring psychological screening before any exorcism is carried out. Father Jose Francisco Syquia says faith and science must work together, but sceptics continue to question the practice.
