South Korean President Lee Jae Myung confirmed on Tuesday that the death toll from the country’s prolonged heatwaves had risen to 16. Lee urged authorities to step up precautions as South Korea’s heat record has been broken three times over the past week alone. This comes as Seoul was placed under the highest-level “severe heatwave warning”, with temperatures forecast to again soar close to 40 degrees Celsius (104°F) on Tuesday.
