Thousands displaced in Malaysia as massive fire destroys over 1,000 homes

A massive fire in Malaysia’s Borneo island has destroyed more than 1,000 wooden homes, displacing over 9,000 people. The blaze broke out in one of the water villages in Sabah state overnight on April 19, 2026. No deaths have been reported and the incident is under investigation.
