Tokyo Skytree closed after 20 tourists stranded in lift for over 5 hours

Twenty people were trapped for more than five hours inside a lift at the famous Tokyo Skytree landmark until they were freed in the early hours of February 23, 2026. The facility is Japan’s tallest broadcasting tower and a popular tourist spot. The operator said the tower would be closed through the following day for safety checks.
