A South Korean passenger ferry carrying 267 passengers and crew ran aground off the southwestern tip of the Korean peninsula on November 19, 2025. The incident sparked a rescue operation that successfully retrieved everyone on board the stricken vessel. The coastguard said 27 people sustained minor injuries. The cause of the incident is under investigation. While the rescue mission was successful, the incident evoked memories of the 2014 Sewol tragedy, where more than 300 people, including many young students, were killed.
