Japan jails pipe-bomb attacker for trying to kill ex-prime minister Fumio Kishida

A Japanese court has convicted a man for throwing a home-made pipe bomb at Japan’s former prime minister Fumio Kishida. Ryuji Kimura was sentenced on February 19, 2025, to 10 years in prison. The 25-year-old was found guilty of attempted murder in the April 15, 2023, attack as Kishida was campaigning in a small fishing port in the western city of Wakayama.
