Hillsides have collapsed in the Indian state of Kerala after sudden torrential rains struck the area on July 29, 2024. Heavy flooding and landslides have killed at least 106 people and injured as many as 128 others. Most of the victims were tea estate workers who lived with their families in makeshift tents. Kerala is a popular tourist destination, but all attractions have been closed because of the flooding. The disaster is the worst recorded in the state since major floods that killed nearly 400 people in 2018.
