Myanmar’s junta extends state of emergency amid struggle to contain rebel forces

Myanmar’s ruling junta has extended by six months a state of emergency that has been in place since the 2021 coup. The junta is facing a prolonged insurrection in the north by pro-democracy and ethnic rebels, in what analysts say has become the biggest challenge to the junta’s power to date.
