The Mother Earth Foundation, an environmental charity in the Philippines, is trying to stop food waste being buried in landfills, and instead using it to make fuel and compost. Residents and waste-pickers in Malabon remove food and other organic materials from general rubbish, and then send them for recycling. Mother Earth is a member of the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, an international organisation encouraging people and governments to segregate, collect and recycle biodegradable waste to try to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
