Japan’s Emperor Naruhito delivers first public New Year’s greeting since pandemic

Japan’s Emperor Naruhito delivered his first public New Year’s greeting in three years on January 2, 2023. The annual tradition had been cancelled for the past two years due to the pandemic. About 9,600 people were chosen by lottery to attend the event held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
