Protesters in the Philippines alleged election fraud after the son of late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jnr, secured a landslide victory in the presidential election on May 9, 2022. He received more than 56 per cent of the vote, more than twice that of his closest competitor, the liberal candidate Leni Robredo. Robredo’s supporters expressed shock and disappointment following her election loss to Marcos Jnr. International observers said the election was fair and conducted in a transparent manner, representing “the will of the Filipino people.”
