Maker of beloved iconic Japanese corn puff snack Umaibo hikes price for first time in 43 years

The manufacturer behind Japan's beloved corn puff snack, Umaibo, is raising its price for the first time in 43 years. While prices are surging in the West, Japanese companies have managed to keep their snacks affordable. However, higher raw material costs have forced Tokyo-based Yaokin Corporation to increase Umaibo’s price from 10 yen (US$.09) to 12 yen (US$.10) from April, marking the snack’s first price hike since its 1979 debut.
