US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Washington is determined to ensure freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, in wide-ranging comments on December 14, 2021, at the start of his first Southeast Asia tour. His first stop is Indonesia, where he also commented on China and on regional alliance-building. Blinken said the US will expand economic and military relations with Asian partners to counter China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region.
