Blinken discusses South China Sea, Taiwan Strait and regional alliances during Indonesia visit

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Washington is determined to ensure freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, in wide-ranging comments on December 14, 2021, at the start of his first Southeast Asia tour. His first stop is Indonesia, where he also commented on China and on regional alliance-building. Blinken said the US will expand economic and military relations with Asian partners to counter China’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region.
