US journalist Danny Fenster sentenced to 11 years in jail after arrest by Myanmar junta

US journalist Danny Fenster was sentenced to 11 years behind bars on November 12, 2021, after being hit with a string of charges, including unlawful association, incitement against the military and breaching visa rules. He is one of dozens of journalists arrested by the military government since it seized power in a February coup that plunged the nation into chaos and bloody crackdowns. Fenster still faces additional charges of terrorism and sedition, which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
