Hostage crisis at shopping centre in Philippine capital Manila ends after gunman surrenders

A Filipino security guard who was recently sacked from his job at a shopping centre in the capital of Manila was arrested on March 2, 2020, after shooting a man and taking dozens of people hostage.

Archie Paray, entered the V-Mall in Metro Manila's San Juan City armed with a pistol and was shouting that he was carrying a grenade, according to the city’s mayor Francis Zamora. 

The drama ended after the gunman released the hostages in exchange for being allowed to make a phone call to the media and fellow guards to air his grievances.
