Malaysian prosecutor rejects call to release Vietnamese suspect in Kim Jong-nam murder

Malaysia's attorney general has ordered the murder case to proceed against a Vietnamese woman suspected of killing Kim Jong-nam, the elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The prosecutor rejected calls to drop a murder charge against Doan Thi Huong, who is now the only suspect in custody after court’s decision to free Indonesian Siti Aisyah on March 11.

Huong’s family in Vietnam was disappointed and said it was “unfair” to their daughter.

The woman was accused of using the nerve agent VX to murder Kim Jong-nam at an airport terminal in Kuala Lumpur on February 13, 2017.

She and her former co-defendant claim they were duped into taking part in what they thought was a harmless reality-show prank.

The murder trial will resume on April 1, 2019.
