Malaysian court frees Indonesian suspect in Kim Jong-nam murder case

Malaysian prosecutors have dropped murder charges against one of two women who have been held for about two years on suspicion of killing Kim Jong-nam, the elder half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Indonesian citizen Siti Aisyah was freed on March 11, 2019, after Malaysian dropped the charges against her. The prosecutors did not give a reason for her release.

The trial of the other suspect, Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong, is set to resume on March 14. Doan’s lawyer says he plans to request that the murder charge against her also be dropped.

The women were accused of using the nerve agent VX to murder Kim Jong-nam at an airport terminal in Kuala Lumpur on February 13, 2017.

The women have said they thought they were taking part in a prank for a television show. Four North Korean suspects who had been wanted in the case fled Malaysia after Kim was killed.
