On July 9, the GPM (Global Precipitation Measurement) Core Observatory satellite identified Typhoon Maria’s doughnut-shaped eye. The super typhoon pummelled Japan and Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. It is now making landfall in eastern China.
