Widely known as the “Godfather of AI“, he is University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto and Chief Scientific Advisor at the Vector Institute. Formerly a Google vice president, he resigned to speak freely on AI risks. Hinton’s pioneering work on artificial neural networks, deep learning and the backpropagation algorithm revolutionised speech recognition and object classification. He received the 2018 Turing Award and the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for his foundational machine learning contributions. He was a key participant at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
