Chapecoense Air Disaster
The Chapecoense air disaster occurred when chartered LaMia Airlines Flight 2933 crashed on 28 November 2016 while transporting the Brazilian Chapecoense soccer team from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, to José María Córdova International Airport in Medellín, Colombia. The airliner, an Avro RJ85, was carrying a total of 77 people: 68 passengers, which included the soccer team, club officials, 21 journalists, and a crew of nine. The team was en route to play the 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals against Colombian team Atlético Nacional. Six people survived the crash. The Colombian Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics opened an investigation into the incident with support from the British Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
