Beijing’s liaison office
The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, a representative office of the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China, is headquartered in Sai Wan, Hong Kong Island. Established in 2000, its primary mission is to promote Beijing’s interests, liaise between Hong Kong and mainland officials, and foster economic, educational, and cultural exchanges. The office plays a significant role in coordinating pro-Beijing political activities and is seen by some as a powerful entity influencing Hong Kong’s governance and development, including its status as an international financial centre.
