Huawei Technologies maintained “steady” recovery momentum in 2025, with its profit rising 8.6 per cent, as the Chinese telecommunications gear maker doubled down on chip development and smartphones in defiance of US sanctions.
Net profit came in at 68 billion yuan (US$9.8 billion) last year, compared with 62.6 billion yuan a year earlier, according to the Shenzhen-based company’s annual report released on Tuesday.
Total revenue in 2025 reached 880.9 billion yuan, up 2.2 per cent from 862.1 billion yuan in 2024. The pace of growth was much slower than the 22 per cent surge seen in the previous year.
Huawei’s overall performance “remained steady” in 2025 and in line with forecasts, said Sabrina Meng Wanzhou, the rotating chairwoman, in a statement. While Huawei is a privately held company, it voluntarily discloses its key financial data on a regular basis.

Still, last year’s sales were the second-highest on record for Huawei after 891 billion yuan in 2020, a year after the US first imposed sanctions on the company’s lucrative mobile phone and international operations.
The results came as the company ramped up its presence in artificial intelligence chip development and staged a full comeback in the smartphone business in the past year, defying restrictions imposed by Washington that cut off the company’s access to the most advanced US technologies.
“We are moving towards a future that is full of uncertainty, so we have to remain true to our strategy and maintain strategic focus,” Meng said. “We will translate strategy to execution, keep cultivating the developer ecosystem, and pursue high-quality development.”
The company’s information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure segment, which includes its AI computing, carrier and enterprise business units, remained the biggest contributor with 375 billion yuan in sales in 2025, up 2.6 per cent from the previous year.
Its consumer business unit, which includes smartphones, recorded a 1.6 per cent year-on-year growth to reach 344 billion yuan.
Huawei also announced on Tuesday that David Wang Tao will take up the position of rotating chairman on April 1, with a tenure running through September 30. This marks the first term for Wang, the former head of Huawei’s ICT business and currently deputy chairman of the board.
After keeping its semiconductor development plans close to its chest for years since the US sanctions in 2019, Huawei unveiled its AI chip road map last September, announcing plans to launch upgraded Ascend AI chips over the next three years.
Huawei said it had developed the “world’s most powerful” supernode computing clusters – including Atlas 950 SuperPoD – which it debuted globally in March using local chipmaking processes. Also this month, it launched the Atlas 350 accelerator card for inference, boasting better performance than US rival Nvidia’s H20 card.
The firm’s chip advances also laid the groundwork for its strong comeback in the domestic handset market.
Huawei edged out Apple to reclaim the No 1 spot in mainland China’s smartphone market in 2025, with a 16.4 per cent share, according to an IDC report in January. It was the first time Huawei had secured a full-year lead in China’s smartphone market since 2020, after the US tightened sanctions on the company.
Its intelligent automotive solutions segment, which includes autonomous driving and intelligent vehicle solutions, was the fastest growing business in 2025 with a 72 per cent surge in sales to 45 billion yuan.
Another bright spot was its digital power segment, where sales jumped 13 per cent to reach 77 billion yuan.
Revenue in Huawei’s cloud computing segment, however, declined 3.5 per cent to 32 billion yuan. A company representative attributed the fall to a cloud business restructuring that moved some teams to the ICT infrastructure unit “to match the company’s business development”.
In 2025, Huawei spent a record 192.3 billion yuan, or 22 per cent of its total revenue, on research and development.
