China’s Moonshot AI, whose recently released Kimi K3 model stunned with performance close to American frontier systems, is seeking ambassadors to elevate its global influence.
The Beijing-based start-up on Tuesday launched the “Kimi Ambassador Program”, aimed at “passionate Kimi users to build up communities and the future of AI”, according to its website.
The move comes as Moonshot seeks to turn the growing attention around Kimi K3 into broader adoption among developers and creators.
Unlike traditional software products, AI models often need users to adapt them to specific workflows, making external developers and communities an increasingly important channel for discovering new use cases.
The company was recruiting entrepreneurs, developers, content creators and university students who were “influential” in their own communities, had integrated Kimi into products or workflows and were willing to share their experiences and passions to a broader community, it said.
The application process reflects the type of users Moonshot hopes to attract. Candidates must complete an 11-question form covering their personal details, experience with Kimi, social media presence and community influence, along with open-ended prompts such as what they would build if they had unlimited access to Kimi’s application programming interface (API).
Successful candidates would gain early access to unreleased Kimi models and experimental features, API credits – a digital currency used by software providers to gauge and charge for the usage of their API – direct engagement with Moonshot’s product team, and opportunities to showcase their work through official channels.

The ambassador programme reflects a broader shift in the artificial intelligence industry, where companies are increasingly focusing on building developer communities and user ecosystems alongside improving model capabilities.
Moonshot is also aggressively promoting its system in Silicon Valley, where a billboard reading “Kimi is an open model” that costs “70 per cent less” attracted attention online. The content was confirmed by the South China Morning Post.
The company joins a global race in which US AI leaders have launched similar projects.
Anthropic in March unveiled “Claude Community Ambassadors” to encourage users to organise local meet-ups, workshops and hackathons while providing product feedback to the company.
OpenAI launched Codex Ambassadors to support developers and community organisers in hosting local events, sharing workflows and helping more users adopt its coding assistant.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and chief scientist Jakub Pachocki in a June blog post stressed that the next challenge for AI was not only advancing frontier capabilities, but making them accessible and useful to a broader range of users.
Community-building has grown as AI products become increasingly complex. Early chatbot-style assistants mainly relied on users entering prompts and receiving responses, but today’s AI agents are expected to handle multi-step workflows, including writing code, interacting with external tools, analysing files and automating repetitive tasks.
As use cases become more specialised, companies are relying on experienced users and developers to demonstrate practical applications, share workflows and provide feedback that may be difficult to capture through internal testing alone.
