Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is mounting a fresh challenge in the foldable handset market after launching the latest product in its Find N series, as the industry faces rising memory prices and anticipation builds around Apple’s foldable iPhone.
Find N6, launched globally on Tuesday, featured upgraded hinge technology designed to make the crease on the foldable screen “virtually imperceptible”, according to the company.
“While foldables offer the advantage of a larger display, the crease has remained one of the primary concerns for users,” said Pete Lau, senior vice-president and chief product officer at Oppo. “It’s a challenge Oppo has sought to solve ever since the original Find N.”
The prices of the new handset range from 9,999 yuan (US$1,450) to 11,999 yuan, a 1,000 yuan increase compared with the previous Find N5 model released in February last year.
“You may all know that memory is more expensive than gold now,” Lau said at the launch event at Oppo’s Binhai Bay campus in Dongguan.
The handset has a thickness of just 8.93mm (0.35 inches) when folded and weighs 225 grams (7.9 ounces). It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, supporting artificial intelligence capabilities and multitasking performance.
Oppo’s latest push into the premium segment comes as smartphone makers grapple with surging component costs amid a memory shortage. The memory crunch has threatened to squeeze profit margins and forced companies to raise prices.

Last week, Oppo announced price increases of 300 yuan (US$44) to 500 yuan on some handsets “in the face of rising costs for multiple key smartphone components including high-speed memory hardware”. The new prices took effect on Monday.
“To mitigate the cost pressure, we tried to improve our yield rate to reduce the costs, and talked with our suppliers for more reasonable deals,” said Vera Cheng, senior product manager at Oppo. “It’s always the last step for us to transfer the costs to our consumers.”
Other brands have followed suit. Vivo and its sub-brand iQOO said on Monday that they would adjust prices from Wednesday, though they did not disclose the scale.
Global smartphone shipments in 2026 were forecast to decline 13 per cent to 1.12 billion units, marking the largest drop ever for the industry, according to research firm IDC last month.
Foldable handsets are expected to be one of the few bright spots in the industry. According to IDC’s forecasts, global foldable smartphone shipments were expected to grow 30 per cent in 2026, fuelled by Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone.
Apple’s first foldable model, which some analysts expect to debut this year, could capture more than 22 per cent of unit share and 34 per cent of the category’s value in its debut year, according to IDC.
In China, Oppo was expected to challenge the dominance of Huawei Technologies, which accounted for 71 per cent of the domestic foldable market in 2025, according to IDC data. Honor ranked second with 9 per cent, followed by Vivo with 5 per cent. Oppo tied with Samsung for fourth with 4.3 per cent each.
