If the world -class rugby action isn’t quite enough, fans coming to the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at Kai Tak Stadium also have some exciting music to look forward to.
English indie rockers Kaiser Chiefs will be one of the headline acts at the new venue, while DJ Pete Tong will transform the venue into the world’s biggest disco with his Ibiza Anthems set.
One of the highlights of the global rugby calendar, the Sevens makes its debut at Kai Tak this year after 41 years at Hong Kong Stadium.
Part of the HSBC World SVNS series, the tournament will feature 30 men’s and women’s teams playing 72 matches in total over three days, from March 28 to 30.

Aside from the sporting action, in its heyday the event also featured top-line musical acts, including the likes of The Beach Boys, Madness, The Wailers and The Village People.
This year’s crowd, in the new 50,000-seat stadium, will get to see the Kaiser Chiefs – whose songs include “I Predict a Riot” and “Ruby” – perform on Sunday afternoon as the action on the pitch builds to its climactic conclusion.
The Chiefs, who have sold more than three million albums and won three Brit Awards, will take to the stage at 4.45pm.
For those who like to party on the Saturday of the Sevens, English DJ Tong, widely regarded as a global ambassador for electronic music, will perform his set that evening, at 6.35pm.

Also performing at the tournament, which is the fifth stop of the seven-leg series, will be local Cantopop group RubberBand.
Recognised as one of Hong Kong’s most renowned bands, RubberBand will perform on the opening day of action, which starts at 10.30am. The opening ceremony on Friday, supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, will start at 6.40pm.
If that was not enough, Italian artist Gala, whose multi-platinum song “Freed from Desire” has become an anthem at live sporting events around the world, will be in the house on Saturday.
Tickets for the first big occasion at Kai Tak Sports Park are still available, with adult three-day passes costing HK$1,950 and tickets for children 12 and under HK$950, on a first come, first served basis.
